In the early 1950s, the French Air Ministry was looking for a chronograph wristwatch for its pilot officers, and the prototype Breguet made in 1952 boasted a military presence among several brands. And the following year, in 1953, the French Aviation Technical Service (Service technique de l’aéronautique, STAé) was approved and the delivery officially began. According to Breguet’s official archive records, there are a total of 1,100 pieces of the first-generation Type 20 military model (Ref. 7211) produced between 1955 and 1959. For reference, the type was initially marked with Arabic numerals (Type 20) rather than the current Roman numerals (Type XX).
